In today’s gadget world of communication and
entertainment devices, we are going to look at a better way to enjoy using
them. In this column we’ll discuss earpieces that provide both stereo sound to
our ears and a microphone for smartphone calling.
The ATHENS
“True Wireless” SPORT is just such a device. It comes with a compact storage
case that not only stores the enhanced noise canceling ear buds, but also
serves as a charger and reserve battery supply. Mounted on the side are four illuminated
charge/charging indicators. The ATHENS
SPORT earpieces retain 8 hours of playtime before quickly recharging from
the case’s built-in power reserve. This reserve provides three additional charging
cycles without being plugged into a, not supplied, standard USB power source.
This feature enables the unit to be on-the-go for up to 32 hours before a full system
charge is required. Charging time about one hour. Other features include
Bluetooth 5.0, a built-in mic for use with your smartphone with a waterproof
IP67 specification. The IP67 code means that the ear buds can be dropped into a
body of water up to a meter deep for half an hour. They are also dust resistant. Works well in the shower and heavy rain!
The ATHENS
SPORT is compatible with IOS, Android, SIRI and Google Now. Pairing works
the same as any other Bluetooth device, and once paired is always at the ready
unless you turn off your devices Bluetooth function in settings. The SPORTS’ controls for on, off, play,
pause, volume adjust, track advancement, call answering, and disconnect as well
as SIRI are all activated on the side of each airbus’s logo insignia. Voice
control calling assistance is also possible and a feature generally not found
in similar products. Comes with three pairs of GoFits to adapt to any ear size.
Midnight black is the only color offered.
I found the ATHENS
SPORT ear buds system to work well. It’s size and well thought out features
offer much for our active lifestyles. The fidelity is remarkable considering
how compact it is. As with any new device you acquire you’ll need a little bit
of time to become acclimated to its operation, but you’ll soon appreciate the
Swedish thought and design created by well respected European audio engineer
Axel Grell.
