These days it seems that packagers of various products that use jars, bottles, or plastic containers, seal their lids and caps so tightly that you have to be the man from Hulk to open them. Yes, such seals are designed to keep the contents safe and fresh, but we do need access to the contents without breaking the container, spilling the contents, or causing injury during the process. Sound familiar? EZ OFF may have the perfect solution.

Now I’ve tested many gadgets, but this one belongs in everyone’s kitchen! EZ OFF is a simple device that affixes to the bottom of an accessible kitchen wall cabinet.

They’ve even made the install process so easy by providing a small piece of double stick tape. Simply place the tape where indicated on the opener’s base and position the opener under the cabinet.

Once affixed, screwing in the three screws is effortless and provides the required permanent mounting of the EZ OFF opener.

As noted in the photo above, the EZ OFF opener has a “V” shaped opening. One side of the “V” has jagged edges, while the opposite side has a set of smooth groves molded into the plastic.  Place the container’s lid firmly against both the top of the opener and against both sides of the “V”, while holding it firmly in this position. Now, give the jar a slight clockwise, to the left, twist until you hear a popping sound indicating that you have released the vacuum in the container. Remove the container from the opener and manually complete uncapping the lid. This design allows you to concentrate all your effort into holding your hands on the container, pushing upward and in to the “V”. No mess, no pain and no wrist strain! What could be more efficient in solving an age-old problem?

I rate this as one of the best solutions to opening various containers, be they the top cap of a nail polish container, a soda/water bottle, or various sized jars of food. I did, however, find one style of cap that would not fit EZ OFF. It’s the extended cap found on most condiment squeeze containers. Since such containers have a seal that must first be removed prior to its first use, the cap must be unscrewed to gain access to the seal for removal. These caps can be very tight and hard to unscrew. Again, the EZ OFF is so practical that this slight imperfection should not be a deterrent to having one.
